Top Process %CPU 84.3 gzip

Hi All,

When i view in Main >> Server Status >> CPU/Memory/MySQL Usage , i got this one...

Top Process %CPU 84.3 gzip
Top Process %CPU 70.3 gzip
Top Process %CPU 69.7 gzip

The question is ..

1) What is this all about
2) Why its taking too much CPU
3) Is it good or bad for a server
4) If bad, how to kill it

It's probably your backups running and there's little you can do about it. Those statistics in WHM and pretty much meaningless. If you want to trend your server performance you should look at installing some MRTG graphs and/or monitor the server from the root shell using top

I've installed HotSaniC by the time my server running into production and always using "top"
I just wonder why was WHM statictics meaningless ? By the way, im happy with cPanel and my server

That great. The information in WHM is not very helpful as it doesn't tell you your server load over time (i.e. the trend) and so a single statistic like a certain process used x% CPU means nothing when not in context. If a server is sitting around doing nothing and a process uses 99% CPU there could be no problem at all. If you have a heavy loaded server and a process used 10% CPU it could cripple it. It's all in context and you need to get that from trend graphs or when logged into the server - both of which you now have
