Transfer file of backup HDD

My server has a HDD only for backup. I have a file of 2 GB in this HDD.
I need to download this file to my machine. Is there a way to download it directly?
I tried to transfer the file to the Master HDD, but the SERVER LOAD greatly increases and locks the server.
Anybody can help me, please?

You can connect per ssh o scp and it download in you pc!

Tools.
ssh -> http://the.earth.li/~sgtatham/putty/.../x86/putty.exe
scp -> http://winscp.net/download/winscp416setup.exe
