Question Updated DNS Zone Entries look ok, but customer domains not displaying CSS with HTML

    Hi All,

I have been scratching my head over a problem I have encountered since moving my WHM/CPANEL server to a new physical location that required me to change the IP addresses for the Hostname, Private Nameservers and all domains.

The updated DNS zones and Hostname Entry all seem fine, I can ping them and see the correct IP addresses fine.

I have already trawled the forums for anyone having the same symptoms but no luck.

I have a couple of customer domains that are currently being redirected by IP address from the external hosts that are currently the Authoritive DNS holders for those domains (incidentally, the DNS zones that I have created for these domains have my private nameservers listed as 'authorative' but I don't think that's a problem as it was like that before I moved the server). Having these DNS zones setup this way means that when they update their domains to point to my nameservers, the DNS zones on my webserver don't need to be updated too.

The problem with these redirected domains is that the domain's HTML that is being served up by my webserver no longer includes the CSS files for these domains (so the webpages load up, but minus the CSS styling).

All websites are Joomla controlled, so PHP based. The vast majority of domains on the server are working fine (they include CSS), but there are a couple that I just can't figure out why they aren't functioning 'properly'. This change definitely happened at the same time and I believe as a result of the updates I made on the server for new IP addresses relating to the DNS zones.

I also created a new domain on the server and it seems to suffer the same problem (no CSS being served up).

A small point I noticed is that the cookies that my browser downloaded before and after the change for the domains are slightly different. Before, the cookies are listed by domain name, after it lists them by IP address.

Can anyone suggest which specific files I can check on the WHM/CPANEL server to validate that all IP addresses have been updated correctly on the server? Any suggestions on which CPANEL services I can run to assist too would be great.

    Appreciate the help.

    Rich

This wouldn't be a cPanel/WHM issue per-se. However, do check the configuration for those Joomla installations. Ensure that the configurations are still correct. Sometimes one's home directory can change thus affecting the application. Some (perhaps unintentionally) nefarious users may attempt to use an IP address as their URL so that CSS and images being downloaded aren't counted towards their bandwidth quota.

    Hi David,

    Thanks for your post.

I have been through the various config files and double checked the customer domain CPANEL and files etc. Can't see anything out of place, indeed when browsing these sites from a PC that has domain referenced cookies from prior to the change, they display the CSS correctly.

Can you recommend any posts or documents that confirm which files I can check on the server for the IP and domain details?

I will keep digging here and post a solution (either way) when one is found.

    Many Thanks
    Rich

The Joomla documentation would be a logical place to start. Keep in mind, with Joomla, CSS and images are tied into the theme used for Joomla.
