Default Upgrade to MySQL 5.0 while staying with Apache1/PHP4

    Hi,

We are contemplating upgrading MySQL to 5.0 from 4.1 but we need to keep the Apache1/PHP4 version because of some of our customers' needs.

Can someone confirm that we will be able to upgrade MySQL to 5.0 (using the WHM functionality) without having to also upgrade Apache or PHP?

Since this is a production server we can't just "try and see what happens"

    Thanks,
    Christian

    Thumbs up

Yes you can upgrade the MySQL version without recompiling the apache/php and there is no need to recompile the apache to upgrade the MySQL Version

    To upgrade the MySQL Version

Login to WHM and go to >> Server Configuration >> Tweak Settings

here find "MySQL" and select the version 5 then save the settings and run following command on shell as root user

    #/scripts/mysqlup --force

This script will upgrade the MySQL Version on your server.

    Enjoy

    Thanks for the confirmation.

Will try this at our next maintenance window in a couple weeks and report back if we run into trouble.

Are there any issues to be aware of when upgrading to MySQL 5 from MySQL 4.1.22 especially in regards to popular scripts like Joomla, WordPress etc...

    Many thanks,

    - Vince

Downgrading databases from MySQL 5 to 4.1 is not readily possible. So please make a backup of your databases before you commence with the upgrade - just in case for some reason you need to revert back to 4.1.

From a PHP script perspective, most scripts work just as well (if not better) in MySQL 5.0 than 4.1. I use Joomla and WordPress and just upgraded from 4.1 to 5.0 myself - didn't have to do anything to either Joomla nor WordPress.

Going from MySQL 4.0 to 4.1 was a much bigger leap than going from MySQL 4.1 to 5.0.
