Default Upgrading to the latest version -- hangs on mysql update every time.

Every time I try to update cpanel/whm the update stalls at 20% (mysql update)

    Current cpanel/whm stats:

    cPanel 11.24.4-R36167 - WHM 11.24.2 - X 3.9
CENTOS 5.2 x86_64 virtuozzo on host

I read on another post that I should check the log files to find out exactly what it is hanging on, but don't have a clue as to which log files to check.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

    Thanks,
    Brian

You can find the cPanel update logs at:

    /var/cpanel/updatelogs/update-{TIMESTAMP HERE}.log

MySQL logs to the following files:

    /var/lib/mysql/{YOUR HOSTNAME HERE}.err
    /var/log/mysqld.log

    Thank you David,

I check the logs, and found the following...

/var/cpanel/updatelogs/update-{TIMESTAMP HERE}.log, at the end of the log
    Code:
This is the cPPkgs::MySQL 5.0.81 installer for Linux.
    Fetching http://httpupdate.cpanel.net/mysqlinstall/5.0.81-0/64/centos/5.2/MySQL-shared-5.0.81-0.glibc23.x86_64.rpm (0)....@75.127.84.226......connected......receiving...1%...3%...5%...7%...9%...10%...12%...14%...16%...18%...19%...21%...23%...25%...27%...28%...30%...32%...34%...36%...37%...39%...41%...43%...45%...47%...48%...50%...52%...54%...56%...57%...59%...61%...63%...65%...66%...68%...70%...72%...74%...75%...77%...79%...81%...83%...84%...86%...88%...90%...92%...94%...95%...97%...99%...100%......Done
    Preparing... ##################################################
    MySQL-shared ##################################################
This is nothing in /var/lib/mysql/{YOUR HOSTNAME HERE}.err related to the update.

    I also don't see a mysqld.log in the /var/log/ directory

Without seeing specific errors or having more information, I really could not tell you what is going on as there is literally hundreds of possible causes to your issue. However, I notice in your post above that your server is actually a VPS account.

That given, you could possibly have a resource issue as many VPS servers are too limited in terms of memory and sometime hard drive space to run some tasks. As I said above though, there is too many possibilities to say anything for certain without more information.

You can try contacting your server provider for assistance and / or submit a support ticket with Cpanel. Might want to try getting assistance from MySQL support as well. If you have any log information or errors being displayed that might give a clue as to what is going on, I could probably help point you in the right direction.

One thing I have seen recently on some servers is MySQL update trying to install in the wrong folders or relying on symlinks that don't exist when it tries to install certain files. The servers I have seen with this issue usually throw a few visible errors though when trying to update MySQL.
