Upgrading MySQL

My servers currently have MySQL 4.0.15 installed and I'd like to update to .17 from rpm's. I'd also like to cause the least amount of hassle, which is why I'm asking about it. What steps do I take? Just install the rpm's one-by-one and restart the server? Do I need to perform any additional steps? Will this affect my my.cnf files?

I'm just double checking so nothing explodes on me

Why don't you just wait and let cPanel do it for you? Any specific reason why your in a hurry to upgrade? Just a curious question..

I'm not in a hurry to upgrade, I just don't like running versions of mysql with known bugs and that are from October

Well, I went ahead and did it myself :P

Absolutely no problems. MySQL was down for a total of 10 seconds. Just wgetted the 4 RPM's (server, client, libs and headers, and dynamic libraries), did an rpm -Uv MySQL*, and it was all done.

So, Dreamer, you will be just fine to do as I've done

Thanks, but have you tested with cPanel update after this upgrade? You can test with todays RELEASE.

However if it's installed with RPM cPanel should know about it and not touch it (downgrade do .15)
