    Default Urgent Bind Issue!

    Hello:

Beginning about 2 hours ago I noticed that bind was no longer working on my server. I tried restarting...it errored out with the following:

named has failed, please contact the sysadmin (result was "named is not running"). Sep 1 01:40:32 srv named: failed Sep 1 01:40:32 srv named: /usr/sbin/named: symbol lookup error: /usr/sbin/named: undefined symbol: dns_resolver_setudpsize Sep 1 01:40:32 srv named: named startup failed

    okay..so I tried /scripts/fixnamed...fine...I tried /scripts/rebuildnamedconf...fine...restarting -- no luck, same error. I tried /scripts/fixrndc:

    ....cut off............

Starting named: /usr/sbin/named: symbol lookup error: /usr/sbin/named: undefined symbol: dns_resolver_setudpsize

    I both:

    yum upgrade bind-libs

    and:

    up2date -u bind-libs

    resulting in the following:

There was some sort of I/O error: <urlopen error (-3, 'Temporary failure in name resolution')>

    I added/changed mirrors repeatedly...still:

There was some sort of I/O error: <urlopen error (-3, 'Temporary failure in name resolution')>

as it is now only one domain on the server works...the base domain of the server, and only the -base- of it... www./srv./etc. do not work -- as one might expect from bind not working.

I am completely at my wits end...any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank You.

Seems to have fixed it for me -- thanks to Shashank's rpm. I apologise for having posted without noticing that thread -- but 3am + stress of server downtime = extremely easy to miss things.

Is this affecting all trees (such as stable/release) or only current/edge ?

Thanks for linking to the fix. I just had this problem on current and doing that fixed it as well.

    Thanks,
