Default Urgent: Can't Receive E-Mail - Any Troubleshooting Measures?

    Hello,

All of a sudden, I cannot receive email on my server (which uses cPanel). I can send e-mail, but nothing will receive.

Additionally, it's not being stored on some pop account or something - I legitimately cannot receive the email. Yet, it does NOT bounce back to the sender.

    Can someone please help?

check your mail log and see if mail is actually coming into your server...

Maybe you have blackhole setup and disabled the default account? So all mail not being sent to actual accounts is just blackholed?

    I don't believe it's coming in.

I received "bounce backs" about 24 hours after sending the mail...

I am also receive this on BOTH of my cpanel servers which where automatically updated last night to 9.9.9-R14. I reverted back to 9.9.9-S14 but it didnt chance. I read on another thread it may be because exim.pl got deleted in the update but I will take a look at this shortly.

You really should send yourself a message from an off-server account and just check the logs to see what happens to the message:

    tail -f /var/log/exim_mainlog

Even sending from an seperate server account didnt come through. An Exim recompile should solve the problem as it did for me.

I didn't think it would. You're going to have to find the problem in the logs.

Just to clarify someone else's sugegstion, you should open a shell session and do this:

    tail -f /var/log/exim_mainlog

Then send yourself a message to the server from an off server email server (you isp, perhaps?)

The read what the log spits out at you when the message is attempted to be delivered.

If nothing comes up in the logs, then it is liekly a DNS problem as someone else sugegsted.

If you get some feedback when the message comes in, then that should help point you in the direction to look.

You could also post here what the logs say when it tried to deliver the message and someone might be able to help interpret it for you.

I have no idea what to look for in those logs...nothing suggests an error, but I honestly wouldn't know. Also, DNSreport.com gave me the following message for the e-mail I'm testing:

[Successful connect: Got a 'please try here again later' response: 421 Too many concurrent SMTP connections; please try again later.
    ]
I've tried emailing from my GMAIL account - I get a "delivery delayed" message exactly 24 hours or so after sending...it's not right away.
