    Default urgent help on disk space

    Hello,

    We are getting these error messages on our system. What files can be delete?

    The filesystem mounted at / on this server is running out of disk space. cPanel operation has been temporarily suspended to prevent something bad from happening. Please ask your system admin to remove any files not in use on that partition.

    [/]# df -h
    Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
    /dev/hda1 1.5G 1.5G 0 100% / ->>>>>>>>>>
    /dev/hda7 52G 45G 8.8G 84% /home
    /dev/hda6 486M 7.3M 462M 2% /tmp
    /dev/hda2 7.2G 2.4G 4.5G 40% /usr

    Pleease help.

    Unless you've already chosen to remove it, there will be an application running called laus (linux audit subsystem).

    It stores some large log files which build up over time - sounds like this is the case for you. On my first CentOS 3.x server laus was eating up about 20meg per day in logs. Not much on their own, but it builds up quick.

    Check if you have a directory /var/log/audit.d - if so, you'll have laus and this will be where it stores it's logs. You should see that the logs take up a fair amount of room.

    Instructions for removing laus and it's logs can be found here: http://forums.cpanel.net/showpost.ph...39&postcount=3

    You'll either have to trawl the directories yourself from / that aren't mounted as separate partitions, or simply get help from a server admin if you don't know what you can remove.

    One of the most common reasons I see for / becoming full is either huge files being created in /root or a second /backup disk not being mounted and the backups being created under the /backup directory which is used for the mountpoint.
