user account w/ public_html

Hi,

I created a standard linux user account on my server and i want it to have public_html access on the internet. It created the folder 'public_html' but I cant access it from the Internet. I keep getting a 404 error.

Whats wrong?? Any help would be appreciated

If you create it manually and not as a cPanel account, then you'll have to set it up yourself. That is, create a VirtualHost container for it within httpd.conf. If you don't know how to do that, then I would suggest that you delete the user account and create it properly through WHM.

I dont want to create a full cpanel account. I just want a normal user to have this address www.domain.com/~user/

I read on apache website that setting this "UserDir /home/*/public_html" would do it but its not...

any ideas?
