Users denied access to MySQL

Cpanel Version 4.2.0-STABLE_86

All users are receiving the following error message:

Mysql Databases ERROR 1045: Access denied for user: \'root@localhost\' (Using password: YES) 0

This is when they access CPanel -- I have had no complaints of not being able to access MySQL databases that were setup before the current update.

Does mysql work from the command line when logged in as root via ssh?

looks like your mysql root password got changed.
Restart mysql with --skip-grant-tables change the password and restart mysqld again.
