I am learning PHP and I want to find the php.ini file. According to my phpinfo.php it is located in "/usr/lib/" and for the life of me, I cannot figure out where this is. I assumed it would be in "File Manager" but there is no folder "usr" or "lib".

I am sure it is something easy and obvious, but I need help. Thanks!

This will only be available to the server admins or 'root' user.

I'm guessing you're an end user? You should speak to your hosting provider.

I buy server space from Blackwire Hosting. So then I suppose I dont need to know how to edit the php.ini file then?

You won't find system files via cPanel File Manager, you'll need root shell access. You should be able to locate your php.ini with this command:

php -i |grep php.ini

If you have root access and new and want an easy way to get to system files sans the command line, you might like this WHM addon, CSE:
ConfigServer Explorer

Of course, you'll need root shell access to install it.

First, let me thank you for your willingness to help me and second, I thank you for your patience. The only way I will learn is to continue to ask so here goes......what is "WHM"? Is it "web host manager"? If it is and its diff from CPanel then the answer is "no" unless it is "yes" and I just didnt know I could....

I have not attempted to learn what "Apache" is, but I have successfully created a few data bases and installed a blog and a forum.

I know how to use all the "mail" programs and I have successfully created a form that goes to the cgi-bin, then e-mails the results.

And that is as far as I have gotten. I am "tackling" this stuff one thing at the time, and right now I am "tackling" PHP.

So What I guess I am saying is I probably wont know abbreviations.....I am sorry to be a pain, but I so appreciate the help!

But, your host you pay for the services is really the one to be asking for assistance. cPanel Docs is also another area you might want to poke around in a bit. cPanel/WHM Documentation Intro

Yes, WHM means WebHost Manager.

Not sure if I'm helping at all here either by mentioning that you should be very careful with emailing scripts placed in the CGI-BIN if you're not sure of what you're doing. If the script is not secured properly you could run into problems.

If you have a reseller account some things are on you alone to figure out in that case. But, if you only have cPanel access, then your host is the one who should be assisting you.

Either way, lots of reading to do if you're just starting out and no one can read all the manuals and documents for you, you'll need to do that yourself.
