    Default /var/cpanel/maxemailstracker folder

    Hi,

The folder /var/cpanel/maxemailstracker is taking 2.2 GB space in /var partition and as a result the /var partition is almost full. Can I remove that folder or files insdie it ? What is the purpose of that folder ?

Can anyone help me here ?

    Thanks,
    Prasad.

First go to the folder and do a :

    ls | wc

and see the left side number to get a count of how many files there are. Its probably in the thousands, which is normal on our systems, but post back on what count you get.

    Also do a :

    ls -l | sort -nr +4|more

this should do an inverse sort of the files sizes, the largest will be at the top.

Chances are you have either way too many files OR for some reason have a file in there with an unusually large size.

For example on one of our typical machines that folder has 8949 files totalling 17 megs. So a 2.2 gig folder sounds strange and could be a screwed up file in the folder.

There was a bug in older builds that would generate a file for every single destination demain, rather than just the sending domain. Thus, email destined for yahoo.com would generate a yahoo.com file in that directory. If you are using an older build, please update. If you ahve already updated, please verify the domains in that directory are hosted by your server and remove those that are not hosted.

Can you just delete the whole contents of the folder and see what it rebuilds?

Yes. You would simply lose any current tracking stats in those files. It's the quickest solution, with that caveat.

I removed that folder, cause the /var partition maxed out, and was no other way.

Yeah, I may lose the information, but I hope it won't affect me in other way ? However, thank you for all the follow ups

    Thanks,
    Prasad.

Well I think you need the folder, just not the files in it. I hope the system will recreate it and not choke because its missing.

Each domain name has a number in it, in quad notation (like an IP address), but it's not an IP address and an = and a number..

What exactly does this number mean???
