/var partition set to read only

One of my server's domain uses vbulletin and has about 125k registered users.

On monday at night i sent a newsletter to all the registered users (35kb per email). Tuesday morning the server load went to the sky, i guess it was because all the users who recived the newsletter and accesing to the site.

I did a shutdown -r now because the server wasnt responding, and after the server came back the var partition was set to "read only" (all files and subdirectories...)

root@gaudi [/]# grep '\bro\b' /proc/mounts
/dev/sda2 /var ext3 ro 0 0

Anyidea how to revert this?

What is in /etc/fstab file for /var partition? Is it rw OR ro? You need to set it to 'rw' and do a reboot of the server. If it is already set to rw, take your server down to single user mode and do a File System Check on the /var partition.

Sounds like you corrupted your partition on that shutdown

Restart your server and run a full check on the partition
