    Default new info

    First off, I publish to a WHM/cPanel managed VPS using IE7 and Microsoft Expression Web.
    My VPS got corrupted such that accounts (hosted domains) could not be accesssed excepting one account suffering the greatest from corruption.
    My server host doesn't appear to know what is going on, and is taking several days to find solution.
    At the same time I am using 'safe' cPanel apps to attempt to replace lost functionality.
    For example, Frontpage extensions are not working, so I am trying to reinstall the extensions.

    SYMPTOMS
    Try and login to any domain's WHM/Cpanel to manage email and Fantastico.
    Goes directly to root servers WHM (:2082) or cPanel (:2086).
    cPanel sometimes uses root login, sometimes domain login.
    WHM only allows root login.

    SUGESTIONS
    None.

    MORE INFO
    The server was, it now appears, assessing how the VPS destabilized.
    Server techs may have assessed the following:
    1. multiple installs and uninstalls of PHP apps with minor background conflicts resulting;
    2. failed repair of multiple cPanel apps;
    3. upgrade of Fantastico followed by upgrade of cPanel (both were configured not to upgrade);
    4. progressive destabilization of WHM/cPanel login (failed cPanel access from account domains: e.g., domain.com:2082 or 2086).

    RESOLUTION
    After several days the server finally reset the VPS account.
    During that time Frontpage access was installed and functioned in the previous Shell Access.
    cPanel root was reset to the selected monsoon theme, though that functionality could not be assesed because cPanel access was lost.
    Presently, I am using puTTY to set SSH logins so that I can access the WHM.
    The inital purpose is to determine if the accounts are properly isolateed by WHM.

    Sounds like you're not up to date on all of the various settings of your cPanel. You might start on the "Tweak Settings" page and familiarize yourself with those options for starters. I think if I understand you correctly, your answer is there.

    In the end, my VPS host dropped Windows VPS for one year plus.
    Windows apparently has a number of VPS hosts scared off.

    The host I was having problems with has restarted its Windows VPS services. As for what went wrong when this post was initiated, who knows.

    I am back with where things went awfully wrong.
    It would be nice if C-Panel (or someone) would put up a Wiki where simple public like myself could get at least some idea of real hardships faced by VPS hosts.

    Just to keep things we don't understand connected with solid ground.
