Default Webalizer and Awstats produce different stats

I have had several customers notice that there is a big difference between the stats from Webalizer and Awstats. here is an example:

    Webalizer visits per day
    4/1 861
    4/2 907
    4/3 989
    4/4 1109
    4/5 1205
    4/6 1082

    Awstats visits per day
    4/1 639
    4/2 638
    4/3 763
    4/4 865
    4/5 878
    4/6 777

What is the reason? Which one is right? Or do they somehow measure differently?

    thanks

    Default

They are both technically correct (as they both use the same log files), but they use different methods to calculate the stats. I believe for example that AWStats is a little more intelligent in terms of not counting error pages in overall stats... Just little things like that
