Default What is the difference between inbox and inbox.pop?

I had assumed that inbox and inbox.pop were kind of the same thing. What is the difference between them?

    Example of user's mail directory:

    8.3M inbox
    5.6M inbox.pop
    24K neomail-trash
    8.0K sent-mail

BTW - the user has "Leave copy of message on server" on for his pop3 connection.

Just an update in case any one reads this who can help. My dedi server provider tells me that the inbox.pop file should only be temporary during the life of the pop session - but it seems to persist which effectively duplicates the user's inbox thus taking up twice the space and using up his quota.

    Any ideas?

Same problem here. Many of my users are complaining about email quota warnings and I gotta think these huge inbox.pop files are the problem.

I have to run deletes on them all the time and that only seems to be a temporary fix.

I've been going back and forward with my dedi provider tech support (pwebtech.com) on this. Perhaps the problem arises if the user is both logged into POP and accessing, say webmail. Just a hypothosis - I have no idea really.

inbox.pop is a tmp file that is used when reading the mailbox. You can remove it as long as a pop3 session is not in progress.

See the changelog for a change that should cut down on the these files.
