    Default Where's my bandwidth going??

Since April 15, my site has used about as much bandwidth in one day as it does in a typical month; sometimes two months. The bandwidth monitor in cPanel tells me that HTTP traffic is the issue. I checked AWStats which for some curious reason claimed 0 hits for the 16th and 17th, and typical hits for the remaining days. Spider traffic was also unremarkable.

I tried to update AWStats again this morning and received the error "Premature end of script headers: /usr/local/cpanel/base/awstats.pl: Please check / usr / local / cpanel / logs / error_log for the exact error." I am waiting on my sysadmin to check this for me.

On April 12, our new Joomla site went live. Timing tells me it's possible this has something to do with the issue, but I'm not sure what.

I got a copy of WebLog Expert (an Apache log file parser). Its numbers did not agree with the cPanel bandwidth monitor. It did show higher than normal bandwidth since the 15th, but only about half the amount in the cPanel bandwidth monitor.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. I used 500MB of bandwidth in the past 13 hours.

cPanel's bandwidth reporting includes many services, not just Apache (HTTP). IMAP, POP, FTP and other services are also included in bandwidth calculations.

Your system administrator will be able to determine what is causing the bandwidth consumption. Tell them to check out /var/cpanel/bandwidth/USERNAME where USERNAME is your cPanel username.

I am embarrassed to say that the cause of the issue was a bad rewrite in my .htaccess file. Note to self: test these VERY thoroughly from now on!
