Question WHM 11.23.2 Transfers / Copy Account Options

In WHM 11.23.2 under the Transfers section, when using Copy Account from another server, what exactly does the Point Account on Source Server to New Server option do?

I've not tried this option yet, want to know before I do, and cannot find anything in the WHM documentation about it.

My guess is that it does something with DNS on the source server to make the account on the new server immediately available (i.e. redirects immediately to the new server), without waiting for the domain settings externally to propogate around DNS's.

So what exactly does it do, and can it be revoked on the source server, say if a problem is discovered with the transfer on the new server, so that the old server came remain active until the problem is resolved on the new server.

    Thanks
    Jim

That's what it does: points the DNS records for the domain on the old server to the new server.

This is done after the transfer is complete rather than before, so there shouldn't be a significant risk of the DNS pointing to a site that has an incomplete transfer. If you encounter issues with transfers, please submit a support ticket.

    Exclamation

    Thanks David.

Well I gave it a try (using the Point Account on Source Server to New Server option) with one of the domains, and then I came across the "moving.page" error described in the following post....

    http://forums.cpanel.net/showthread....ht=moving.page

Now after fixing that, it just shows the This account has been moved to another server page on the old server, whereas I would have expected it to have redirected to the new server automatically!?

Never mind, I switched the IP for the domain to point at the new machine using the domain DNS Manager control panel provided by the ISP (and waited til next day for the DNS propogation), rather than relying on cPanel/WHM's DNS entries to point at the new server.

I don't think I will bother using the option for any other domains because it doesn't work as expected. Maybe I'm being a bit impatient and there is another reason why it doesn't redirect properly?

While I'm not desperate for an answer it would be interesting to know how its really supposed to behave, for the benefit of other folk. Any further ideas?

I also have an account that after multiple tries using account transfer - completes "sucessfully " but you end up only seeing

    moving.page

    * Check the site's .htaccess file. The redirect must still be present.
Replace the existing .htaccess with the original.

    * Assure the account is not suspended - ls /var/cpanel/suspended/
    If so, "/scripts/unsuspendacct <username>"

the moving.page must not be implemented completely

its a good idea it just needs tweaks to work

confirmed that express transfers does NOT change the IPs in the dns records of the parked domains
