Default Is WHM/cPanel safe w/SSL and no cert?

I access WHM and Cpanel by using:

    https://MYIP:2083/
    https://MYIP:2087/

I don't have an SSL certificate, so I get warnings when accessing WHM and cPanel. My question is, is my communication safe? I understand that it's not a trusted, verified SSL connection, but the information (especially my root PW) is encrypted and would therefore be incredibly hard for someone to determine even if they were sniffing packets, right?

    Thanks!!!

Yes, it's fine for personal use to simply use a self-signed certificate sice you know that you're connecting to your server. If you don't want to see the error window that always pops-up you can always install the certificate into your browser.

Customers, however, will usually be wary because a self-signed certificate gives them no guarantee that they're connecting to your server and so for the cost of a few dollars it's worth investing in one.

Great! Thanks for clearing that up. I'm pretty much the only person who needs to use WHM/cPanel, so I'm not worried about the warning. I was recently hacked so now I'm being extremely careful.

    The hostname for your server.
