Default WHM creates new account but file structure missing

    Hi all,

I am using WHM 9.2.0 cPanel 9.3.0-R5, RedHat 7.3 - WHM X v3.1.0 on a vps. I have root access, but have never used SSH (never needed)

Until recently, last 2.5 yrs, everything has worked fine. Now, when I create a new account, it is created, and I can log into the user's cPanel, but upon opening the file manager, there is no file structure. The only folder is /(current user), none of the other folders, i.e., public_html, tmp, www, public_ftp, etc are there.

I tried to solve the problem by updating whm to the last stable update, and updated apache...did not help.

I also tried to create the folders using the file manager, but get a sys error - unable to create...no such file or folder in home/username/public_html.

Server sertup is set to /home and home. rootdoc home/user/public_html

account creation indicates that it has copied skel files to home/user/public_html

All the other users of the server are unaffected by the problem, but I can't add new users.

    Any suggesstions?

BTW, I need to get this fixed asap...I have a backlog of clients.

Thanks in advance for any help,
    psydoc

There is no disk space issue. right ?

Submit a cpanel ticket if everything looks ok.

Default WHM creates new account but file structure missing

    Hi shashank,

    Thanks for taking an interest.

No, the disk space is fine.

This is the output of the file created by whm:

    <VirtualHost XX.XX.XXX.XXX>
    ServerAlias www.domain.com domain.com
    ServerAdmin webmaster@domain.com
    DocumentRoot /home/user/public_html
    BytesLog domlogs/domain.com-bytes_log
    ServerName www.domain.com
    User user
    Group user
    CustomLog domlogs/domain.com combined
    ScriptAlias /cgi-bin/ /home/user/public_html/cgi-bin/
    </VirtualHost>

This is exactly the same as the last 25 accounts created, with the exception of domain and user, of course.

Yesterday, I upgraded and rebuilt apache, again...no help.
Then I used the configuration file rollback feature in whm...no help.

I have one IT tech who sets up all new servers, and he checked the UserDir in httpd.conf, and the general.conf both are set to public_html; he is baffled, too.

I just found out that IT submitted a ticket yesterday. I don't want to duplicate their work...they work hard enough, now.

I would however, like some ideas on how to fix this for the future, so I don't have to bother cPanel.

    Thanks,
    psydoc

IIRC, I've seen someone have a similar problem and it turned out to be an incorrect mountpoint in /etc/fstab. Other than that, it may indeed have to be a case of contacting cPanel for support as you appear to have covered the normal issues.

    chirpy (Jonathan),

    Thank you very much!

We will look into the mountpoint. I'm just learning (still crawling), but want to be able to handle all this in the future, so every bit of knowledge is greatly appreciated.
