Default WHM creates new account in non specified directory

    Hi there,

Since a month WHM creates new accounts in /home while in the config /home/www is specified.

    We didn't change anything.

When I looked at a new account I saw that WHM considers the /home/www full for 65% and the /home for 15%.

I found this rare becuase in diskspace /home/www parition is 92% free and /home/www partition only has (because of WHM) 35% free.

I have looked everywhere to find a logical explanation.

The only thing I can think of is that WHM looks at the "package size" of each account and therefore considers /home/www full. If so, how can I fix this.

It is not a resellers WHM, but the Root whm.

The way cPanel/WHM provisions new accounts is that it finds the disk with the most available disk space (not by percentage, package size etc.) and places new accounts there.

    Can I fix this somehow?

I do not like the fact that Cpanel/WHM can "break out" the partition/directory that we have configured.

Besides this it doesn't look at the disk with the most available disk space.

Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
    /dev/cciss/c0d0p6 27G 18G 7.9G 69% /
    /dev/cciss/c0d1p1 67G 4.8G 59G 8% /home/www

As you can see, there is no reason to create new accounts in /home (subdir of mount /) because the mount point /home/www (which is another disk) has more space.

(yeah we know that we should create a separate partition for /home but this server runs over four years now and we didn't expect the troubles that filesystem would be filed caused by whm)

If you want directories to only be created in /home rather than also in /home/www, you should change your home directory prefix to a blank value. You can do this in WHM -> Server Configuration -> Basic cPanel/WHM Setup -> Home Directory Prefix.
