Arrow WHM -- Host Access Control

I have the script service that sends me a security text to my phone
    .
    Just got one that said:
Large Number of Failed Login Attempts from IP xx.xxxx.xx.xx .

    I want to block it.
I already know about the CPanel Security IP blocking for domains, however....

Should I be using the Host Access Control to block the particular IP?

I couldn't find any FAQs on Host Access Control, and don't quite understand it.

Is HAC used to block server logins? If so...

Should I deny everyone, except my IP?
(I need to let the world access my commerce websites, but don't want people hacking into my server.)

    Joe

You should block it in iptables and on your apf/csf/hardware firewall (if any)

starscapes, you can install CSF firewall which will do these task for you and will send you regular emails. You can seek help from anyone to configure the firewall as per your needs.

    OR

you can manually block such IPs using the following two methods:

    iptables -A INPUT -s IPADDRESS -j DROP

    or

    route add IPADDRESS reject

where, IPADDRESS is the one you wish to block.

Both of these commands has to be executed from the command prompt of your server.
