Question php.ini+httpd.conf and whether they are affected by cPanel/WHM updates

I need to set upload_tmp_dir on my server (as this is not set).

I only have limited cPanel and WHM access, so the owner of my webserver will have to edit the php.ini file.

However, they say that there isn't any point setting the upload_tmp_dir in php.ini, as the next cPanel/WHM update will overwrite any settings they change. Is this true? Will the next cPanel/WHM update overwrite the php.ini settings?

Any help would me much appreciated.

WHM/CPanel updates should not touch it, the only time it would be touched is running things like easyapache, or installing Zend Optimizer.

    Thumbs up

Thanks for your help. I have one further (similar) question:

Do cPanel/WHM upgrades alter or replace apache's httpd.conf file?

I thought that there would be no reason for cPanel/WHM upgrades to alter or replace either php.ini or httpd.conf -- otherwise important settings changed by the server owner would be reset all the time. That wouldn't make any sense.

It does sometimes alter httpd.conf BUT, it only appends and does not overwrite anything with regards to settings or user information.
