Thanks again. Can you tell me how often upcp runs by default? In other words, should I concern myself with setting up a cron job to run freshclam every 24 hours or has upcp already go that covered?
By default upcp runs every 24 hours. Unless you've changed this setting manually. To confirm what time it runs, issue crontab -e at the command line. You will see a /scripts/upcp setting.

Just a suggestion for the script, change all ssystem calls to just system. That way in case one of the scripts (like the perl module installers) needs any values entered, you can enter it.

Thanks pagedeveloping for the "how to".

I installed it on a test server last week then slowly added it to all my servers.
We average about 300+ a day we now catch on the servers.

Anyone thinking about installing it should just do it.
It didn't hurt the CPU or burn up any extra resources.

In fact, we have had several clients email us and thank us for finally adding AV to the servers.

Easy, quick, and painless install for anyone.
    Highly recommended!

I know of people running RHE w/ the layer1 mailscanner installed. They have reported no problems.

To Chime in here, we would like to use mailscanner however the problem is not every customer wants it so a tweak to turn it off/on for individual accounts in cpanel would be better

This is a question we considered for our +/-150 customers. No-one can argue that anti-virus protection is a bad thing on the server. So for me (and my clients) the only possibly contentious issue is whether or not to continue to forward messages to them after the virus has been removed by MailScanner + ClamAV. We've decided NOT to forward these messages because
    a) The vast majority of messages sent these days with viruses attached are not legitimate business emails - they are spam with viruses attached.
    b) We've set the option to email the sender of the message (even though this address is often spoofed) with a message that explicitly states that their message did not get through (we had to edit one of the standard reports texts to do this).. So presumably if the message is important enough the sender will attempt to resend after fixing their virus problem.

We explained our actions to our clients, and we've had nothing but good feedback as a result.

So in summary, yes, it would be even better to have the option per-hosting-account to turn on/off anti-virus scanning, but for the reasons stated above I sincerely believe that any client would be crazy not to want this extra level of protection..

Got it running in no time ;c)

Decided on a "don't trouble the recipient" by not allowing delivery of cleaned up messages, but felt better off sending back a warning to the sender stating that his message had been blocked.

I'm currently running SPAM assassin on my cpanel box, it does a good job, but virii are still getting through.

My question is, if I install mailscanner from layer1, does it work alongside SPAM assassin ok?

    Kind Regards,

Yep, seems like a good team job:
MailScanner & Clam stop the viruses and SPAM assassin stops (most of) the rest ;c)

I installed the software exactly like the post, it seemed successful at first, but ended up stopping all the email. It was installed around 2 AM, I received 1 email at 8 AM. After that I had some cpop and imap mails come shortly after which stated they had failed. After everything was back up and running, the mails still would not come throug, any ideas?
