Default Why isn't rotatelog used for rotating the access_log and error_log files?

Just a question wrt apache log file rotation (which is just a single file which keeps on growing).

why isn't the /usr/local/apache/bin/rotatelog used for rotating the /usr/local/apache/logs/access_log and error_log files so that their size are kept under control instead of allowing just a single file to grow.

If possible then what exactly should be done so that the logfiles are rotated to avoid uncontrolled growth of the log files.

    TIA

Never have quite understood why this hasn't been resolved as the fix seems quite easy.
This solution has worked well for us. http://www.webhostgear.com/index.php?art/id:144

    Thanks.
I was more concerned about the access_log and error_log as i have mass hosting with mod_vhost_alias where the logs could grow pretty large quite fast:

    Anyone tried the following:

    TIA

Post reading your article, i find that the things are pretty messed up wrt log rotation. I am sure cPanel admins are not looking forward to a Bug report or a feature request to iron this out. I am sorry cPanel, but lo rotation seems to be the most neglected issue in the software in general.
