Question Wildcard SSL for WHM/cPanel/Webmail "the certificate doesn't apply to the given host"

    Hi,

I searched google and this forum, but I was so unlucky I cannot find any thread about using wildcard SSL cert for WHM/cPanel/Webmail.

I have a wildcard SSL cert, say *.example.org. My server's hostname is example.example.org. I managed to successfully install the wildcard cert for domain *.example.org, user nobody and the server's main IP. So to say, I have successfully use the cert for apache. Now, there's no SSL error/warning when accessing https://example.example.org/.

Problem is, I want to use the same cert for WHM/cPanel/Webmail. So I installed it via WHM >> Service Configuration >> Manage Service SSL Certificates. I filled all the required filed with the exact same information with the ones when I installed the cert for apache. But no matter how I fill the "domain this crt is for", whether it's *.example.org or example.example.org, I always get SSL error saying:

"the certificate doesn't apply to the given host," when I entered *.example.org

"the certificate doesn't apply to the given host," and "certificate is not trusted" when I entered example.example.org

Is wildcard SSL can't be used for WHM/cPanel/Webmail? If it actually can, please help me how to install it. Thank you.

Ooops, I need to make a rectification. The certificate is not working even for apache! The one that I thought was successful is actually because I accidentally added a security exception.

When I access https://example.example.org/ with Chrome, I got this: "The site's security certificate is not trusted!"

There is a discussion for this on cPanel/WHM/Webmail for a feature request:

    http://forums.cpanel.net/f145/ssl-ce...es-200492.html

It isn't currently possible to use a wildcard SSL on these services other than Apache. As for it not working on Apache, there are numerous threads on the forum about setting it up on Apache such as this one:

I'm sorry, the error is not in the cpanel, but in my certificate. Once I use the valid certificate, ssl for apache (using server's hostname) dan whm is working fine.
