Worrying apache logs showing 401s

Hi all

I've just taken a look at the raw apache logs on my cpanel machine here:-

/usr/local/cpanel/logs/access_log

And there are many hundreds of these:-

127.0.0.1 - - [06/03/2008:21:55:22 -0000] "GET / HTTP/1." 401 0 "" ""
127.0.0.1 - - [06/03/2008:21:55:22 -0000] "GET / HTTP/1." 401 0 "" ""
127.0.0.1 - - [06/03/2008:22:03:42 -0000] "GET / HTTP/1." 401 0 "" ""

Could someone please shed some light on what is happening to my server to generate these log entries?

Seeing as those checks are roughly 8 minutes apart, it seems like it's just cpsrvd checking the status of Apache.

Why the 401s? To me it's cpsrvd (is that cpanel server daemon btw? and what is it doing?) getting an access denied code from apache. Why would that be? I haven't altered anything from my default install. I run stable.

Overall I'm wondering if it's anything I should be concerned about? Certainly I'm not overly keen on it filling up the logs with 401s, but I could live with it if it's not doing any harm!

I agree, the 401 is odd. Typically it is 200 (ok). Do you get this HTTP 401 when you go to http://IP where IP is your server's IP address?

HTTP/1.x 200 OK
