I would suggest either using bacula or rsync, rsync is quick and easy to deploy and can run over an SSH tunnel, with static keys and automatic via Cron.

Recently I have been playing with a openVPN setup, allowing my servers to basically use CIFS and other shares through the VPN tunnel so far its pretty cool and works very well (reliability wise) but I haven't gotten to security testing yet. Currently my security is via keys / mac / and IP lockdowns.

I would also recommend using rsync to copy local full cPanel backups to a server in a different datacenter. I use either a cheap server or a would suggest a VPN which includes sufficient bandwidth and disk space to store all the remote backups, doesn't have to be a cPanel server.

Using rsync over SSH means that with key authentication that the files are copied securely and quickly with a single command.

Do you have a how to for this?

I have a website running now that includes a hefty mysql database
in fact the database is now 18gb in size (typo3 site)

would love to figure how to do this vs. just copying the tar over and then having to untar when needed.

thanks

backblaze does not support linux

BackBlaze does not support linux ! at least not yet

2. Is Backblaze going to offer Linux support?
We would love to do a Linux version of Backblaze. However, we are currently focused on making the best online backup experience for Mac and Windows. The good thing is that the code is cross-platform so when we do release a Linux version it will benefit from all the improvements we've made for the Mac and Windows versions. Right now we don't have any support for public API's for people to upload/download to the Backblaze storage servers.
There are ways to cludge this - but doing the restore would be cludgy as well

We will stick w/ rsyncs and R1soft for this stuff
