Nginx (eNgine X) - lightning fast web-server, cPanel compatible setup

Nginx (http://sysoev.ru/en/) is the fastest web-server mostly used for serving static content.

We have been used Nginx for our projects as well as setup it for our clients for a while with amazing results.

Recently we felt the need to install Nginx in front of Apache on cPanel server. It was a tricky job as we were faced with various cPanel specific issues and features (our install do count traffic which served by Nginx!) but with our experience in servers management we were able to got fully working setup which works sweet.

In fact all our own servers running Nginx in front of Apache and Nginx serve static content directly, skipping Apache. This means lesser memory consumption, higher speed and protection from Apache overload (common scenario when someone trying to bomb Apache with number of requests, kind of DoS) as Nginx may handle literally tens thousands connections!

For example, it is using ~2.5 Mb RAM for keeping 10,000 (!) inactive Keep-Alive connections - it is what kills Apache for everyone.

We offer Nginx install and continued support with automatic updates, etc. as a part of our Management services (either Full, $50/month or Partial, $30/month).

We may install Nginx and keep it updated with all necessary tweaks as well for lower monthly/annual fee - send us an email for quote.

Hello, does this work with the latest apache and latest php?

As there are very little documentation in english i would just like to understand a few things:

1 - static site loads faster: meaning php pages and html with jscript,ajax,css loads faster and flash loads the same right? I read there is a mod inflate and mod deflate i think this helps to increase the loading speed of files.

2 - will this break when apache rebuilds or when cpanel/whm upgrades?

3 - when this is installed on a box will all vhosts enjoy the benefits? is there a icon in whm or cpanel to configure or change settings or is it transparent?

In proxy (protection) mode it works with anything (while our setup is for Apache 1.3.x and Apache 2.x). It doesn't matter what PHP version you have as PHP being processed by Apache (of course, Nginx may also process PHP, but it is more complex setup and suitable for heavy traffic sites only - most cPanel features won't work in this way).

1. It is possible to process static files via Nginx - this means you have lesser Apache childs and memory usage. This means faster response time and overall system speed increase;

2. No. As cPanel supports custom listen port Apache rebuilds won't break setup. The only case is when you change major versions of Apache (then module for Apache are to be rebuilt).

3. In proxy mode all hosts are protected. If static mode enabled additionally all hosts with exception to excluded hosts (some won't work unless custom settings applied) will have their static files served via Nginx. There is no cPanel plugin as it isn't required and no customer's action needed.

Just to add - if you choose one of our management packages you will benefit not just with Nginx continued setup but also other aspects of server tuning (emails, security, maintaince, etc.).

as for maintenance, i don't require a monthly one, perhaps a quarterly will do.
