Default Howto add/remove a link from the xskin index.html without feature manager?

It is not supported by the feature manager and no precise info on the site as to how to go about it.

I tried editing the index.html through ssh, then uploaded it again, but it is still the same, no change to it, even after a restart.

    Thanks

Clone the skin you want to edit, give it a name and edit the index.html or main.html file in an html editor. You can find the new skin under /usr/local/cpanel/base/frontend/

If you don't clone the skin, cpanel will overwrite your editted file.

I have done the job, edited the file through cloning, then deleted the old dir. and renamed the new one xskin. But, as some of these scripts have auto-updates, I wonder is cpanel-owned xskin also has auto-updates, for in that case the file will overwrite again.

I have made 5 clones for xskin and have used frontpage to edit the main.html file. They have never been overwritten.

    Hope this helps.

Cpanels default skins will be overwritten whenever a cpanel update includes any changes to the skin. Cloned skins, given a unique name, will not be overwritten. This includes all cpanel skins, unless they quit using it.

You can make a copy of a skin, give it it's own name, and do whatever you want to it. It will stay the way you make it. Change an existing cpanel skin and it will be changed back. There is one drawback to doing your own skins. When there are new features, or changes in how a feature works, you will need to manually update your skin to accomodate those changes.
