    Howdy,

We use the Active Directory integrated DNS server, so you can add another DNS server to the AD domain and sync the changes. No enkompass install needed.

    Thanks!

The synching functionality performed by cPanel DNSONLY is unique to the Linux/FreeBSD product at this time.

Do you have any plans to add support for BIND, which can then be synced with a DNSOnly server?

I would like to know this as well as we currently run Bind on our Plesk servers which sync to our cpanel dnsonly setup for redundant dns (cause plesk keeps breaking dns)

You won't see any changes to DNS support in RC1, but we do have plans to support more than the AD integrated DNS. I do not have a time line for when this will happen, unfortunately. We have had several requests for BIND since our beta was released and I believe it will likely be supported in the future.

    Jenn,

How are you planning to support BIND within an AD Deployment as this wouldnt really be integrated with AD DNS you would need to run it on addtional boxes would you not?

    Cheers

    Howdy,

No plans have been made at this time for adding this feature.

I too see this as difficult one ... I have never seen BIND with AD Deployment ...
If this can be done, the issue of managing multiple DNS systems will be resolved with enkompass server setup.

It might probably be easiest to bypass AD altogether in order to support BIND? Just a guess though ........

But, please keep this request in mind. Many of us already run cPanel & cPanel DNS-only servers for redundancy. Being able to use existing DNS-only servers would make it a lot easier for hosts who offer both Linux & Windows to have some "integration" between them.

I would like to see a solution to this as well as we run a geographically redundant dns service for all of our cPanel servers, and we even have bind on our Plesk servers using it too...

offering physically redundant dns is a major need for our clients

Thinking on this - theres nothing to stop you allowing transfers to remote bind servers (or at least their IP's) within AD, and then setting the zones up as slaves on those - they would then query the remote AD servers and get the AXFR/IXFR request that way.

but that would cause a lot of unnecessary admin to manage all these domains manually.
