The error has disappared with 2.4.24 kernel.. I guess horde is not compatible with the 2.6 versions.

You can check whether the mails work or not by:
su -s /bin/bash username...
THe path is:
root@thunder [~]# ls -al /usr/bin/python
-rwxr-xr-x 2 root root 391552 Jan 31 14:54 /usr/bin/python*
check the permissions of phython binary.
