Not sure if this is the right forum, apologies if not.

Subject says it all. Boss wants our DB backed up but the only way it seems to do it is to have 0777 permissions. phpMyBackupPro seems to imply it's OK as long as the directory is not within apache's home folder. Is this true?

777 permissions is insecure regardless of location. In fact, on a server running SuPHP, global write permissions are not permitted (will throw server 500 error) as a security precaution. However, depending on the script, it may require 777 permissions to operate in a PHP environment which is not SuPHP.
