170% cpu loads on 8 cpu intel server

    Hi all

    I got an issu of server load

    apache logs is about 1800 per second and server cpu is hits 169%

    website goes down
    My server info is
    System Item Details Status
    Server Load 169.81 (8 CPUs) [​IMG]
    Memory Used 17.66% (5,799,544 of 32,832,344) [​IMG]
    Swap Used 4.01% (41,980 of 1,046,520) [​IMG]
    Any solution

    that would total depend on what your running an what each site is using there is no one config fits all

    Sure we have firewall on the server.This cause is about apache.

    Server info you have above. What i dont understand is 1800 connect in sec and website goes down.

    use netstat command and check how many connections are there on port 80. If connection is too high then it seems that server is under attack. You have to tweak apache settings and install firewall and DDOS protection tool.

    Sure we have firewall and anti DDOS protection but the question is website is very large and heavy traffic alexa rank is about 5k. over 1800 conect at sec that big! for apache setting any solution!like prefork ect
