Hi, I wanted to ask you a question regarding having a dedicated database server. As an example, hire 2 VPS, one large for whm / cpanel and hosting websites, and another not so large to only have the mariadb database engine.
I understand that cpanel allows to use a remote server as a database engine. Has anyone made that configuration? Do you recommend it?

It is possible yes. This way the database server as it's own dedicated resources while the other VPS can serve the websites. It could be a good option if you have high traffic websites and a very busy server but you need to make sure the 2 servers are in the same DC with good internal connection to avoid data corruption.

Many users have a remote database server to lower the load on the primary web hosting machine when they are busy databases and lots of database activity. It's a great option if that is the case for your hosting situation.
