2FA doesnt work all of a sudden

I'm using 2FA, I have done it for a long time and everything works well (until now).

I have a VPS with WHM and one cPanel user.

The cPanel user cant log in with 2FA all of a sudden.

I have to go to WHM and disable 2FA to be able to login.

What can this be, and how do I fix it, Im a bit nervous that I will lock myself out of my VPS.

It's a bit of a shot in the dark, but check the server time. If it's off / drifted too much that can cause issues.

I checked that, and its fine. And if that was an issue, I wouldn't be able to login with the WHM 2FA either.....

Very strange.

Do you see anything helpful in /usr/local/cpanel/logs/error_log when the failed login with 2FA happens?

Cant find anything in there that would make me understand what is going wrong.

If I remove the current 2FA 8this is disabled now) and add it again, as per my understanding, that wouil be a "fresh" 2FA key (or whatever it is called).

Is there anything I need to think about? Again, IM just afraid I will lock myself out of my server.

You wouldn't lock yourself out of the server by making that change. Even if you somehow lost WHM access, we can help you get it back through SSH.
