i was checking mysql directory in /var/lib/mysql directory , and was shocked to see some strange files some around 3gb in size here are their names :-

ibdata1 more than 3gb in size
    ib_logfile0 nearly 5mb
    ib_logfile1 nearly 5mb

one error file with my servers host name around 300mb

are these files safe to delete ? i heard some where larger log files can slow down server so please advise

These are not safe to delete. The ibdata1 file contains the table details for InnoDB engine tables. If you remove the ibdata1 file on your system, then any databases using InnoDB will cease working. Also, it's possible MySQL might quit working.

The error log is also necessary, since that's how you determine MySQL errors when MySQL quits working for troubleshooting.
