7zip for backups instead of gzip please?

Is it possible to change the backup program to use 7zip instead of tar.gzip file please. 7zip appears to be a more attractive option to me, as it has binaries for Linux and Windows OS's. Plus 7zip supports a nice range of compression protocols - possibly more than tar/gzip does.

I run Centos 5.9 Linux at home, and do my work on Windows Vista machines.
