I have a customer who is extremely upset right now because a file he is tring to receive is being blocked by Mailscanner. Here is a copy of what he gets:

    ------------------
One or more of the attachments (._fetchsoftworks.com, fetchsoftworks.com, Fetch 4.0.3, Fetch 4.0.3 Folder.zip) are on
the list of unacceptable attachments for this site and will not have
    been delivered.

Consider renaming the files to avoid this constraint.

The virus detector said this about the message:
Report: Report: MailScanner: Executable DOS/Windows programs are dangerous in email (._fetchsoftworks.com)
Report: MailScanner: Executable DOS/Windows programs are dangerous in email (fetchsoftworks.com)
Report: MailScanner: No programs allowed (Fetch 4.0.3)
    -------------------

Can anyone please tell me how to unblock this file?
And also, can Mailscanner be disabled per account?

I admit I did not do a thorough search on this yet, as the situation is requiring me to handle damage control at the moment.

Major thanks to anyone who replies,
    Dave

Depends on what MS implementation you are using. With Chirpy's setup you can configure MS by domain.

We usually use MailWatch to release attachments/messages but the MS site does have some info depending on how your quarantine directive is set. Quarantined attachments can be found at /var/spool/MailScanner/quarantine/"dated directory"/

Thank you, I am using Chirpy's. I'm looking for a way to release the email from quarantine in MailWatch but I must be totally missing how. Could you tell me how you do it from there? Thanks!
EDIT - woops, nevermind, I see it :)

Do you mean by editing the rules files? Or is there a better / more all-inclusive method?

In WHM you should have an option under Add-ons for MailScanner. When you select that you should see the option to Enable/Disable Accounts.

If you enable an account, the MS option will showup in the corresponding domain's control panel under Pro.

Thank you sawbuck. I don't have that option (that I can see). There are 3 buttons:
    Mailscanner Configuration
    Front-End Settings
    Mailwatch

I have searched all 3 sections for a way to disable MS on individual domains, but I haven't found it yet. Maybe I'm overlooking it, maybe it's not there?

Thanks for your replies so far, I really do appreciate it.

The problem is the filenames that end in ".com." Mailscanner thinks it is a program. Just have them zip ALL the attachments and it will do fine. I would not recommend you allowing people to email ".com" or ".exe." Bad idea.

AFAIK that would normally be installed with his MS package.

Might be that it was made available after your initial install/configuration. With the time difference to the UK you should be able to get a response in the AM.
