Accidentally deleted index.php file

Help! I was trying to edit my index.php file but I accidentally clicked "delete" (which is conveniently located right above "edit" in the file manager).

I clicked on the file in the trash can to restore it, but it's not restoring it. It shows in the upper right pane, but there's no file URL displayed and it's not showing up in the left pane.

Why doesn't clicking on it in the trash can restore it, and what do I need to do to restore it?

I tired searching for this, but I don't seem to have much success when searching. Maybe because I'm too new to know what terms to use.

FTP into the account and see if you can find it. If not contact your hosting company, not the company that wrote the software that runs on the server. Maybe they have backups for you

well most of us used dedicated FTP software. but IE7 and IE6 both have FTP built in. ftp://yourdomain then go file/ login as

once in there ..look around in all the folders for your missing files

Thank you again for your help - I really appreciate it. I did what you said and I don't see the file. It still shows in my trash can on my file manager, so I would think it's gotta be on here somewhere. Is there a location where trash is stored?

...ah, I found the trash bin folder, and my index.template.php file is in there! I right-clicked and saved it my my hard drive, then uploaded it using my file manager. Ta da!

you know you can scrap the file manager and just drag and drop up and down using FTP anyway.

Well...no, I didn't know that.

You mean I can drag and drop if I get a dedicated FTP like you mentioned previously? It didn't look like I could drag and drop using IE6.

I just bought a package form Host Gator 2 months ago have been stumbling my way through in my free time. I think I'm just now past the totally-depressed-and-frustrated-to-the-point-of-giving-up stage, to the sort-of-comfortable-with-what-I'm-doing-but-knows-just-enough-to-be-dangerous stage.

I really appreciate your help last night - there's no way I could have gotten through that one without you. I got virtually no help on this from the normally helpful SMF forum. God bless you!

Internet Explorer isn't really all that great of a FTP program.

For Windows, there are two FTP programs that work very well with cPanel/WHM: FileZilla and CoreFTP. I know FileZilla supports drag and drop and is fairly easy to use. I've never used CoreFTP so I cannot comment on that program.

For Windows, there are two FTP programs that work very well with cPanel/WHM: FileZilla and CoreFTP. I know FileZilla supports drag and drop and is fairly easy to use. I've never used CoreFTP so I cannot comment on that program.

I was attempting to introduce him to FTP without a 3rd party application including the file manager in cPanel that was failing to do the job for him in the first place.

But technically IE and it's built-in FTP works like the regular managemnt of windows folders on the local drive. In that respect I find it completely easier to use than a 3rd party FTP client. The new web dav drive connection basically get's you the same thing. The advantage is a seamless folder like access.

Anyway .I actually use SecureFX by vandyke which does several protocols as well for secure FTP and FTP over SSH also. But I think the point would be anything but the file manager for uploading a site :D

...and that was exactly what I needed! IE6 did the trick for me quick and easy when I needed a solution right away. For now, I'm happy with the File Manager and IE6, but I at some point I'm sure I'll need more and I'll be sure to check out SecureFX, FileZilla and CoreFTP. Many thanks to both of you!
