    I have a client who says that the language option for windows arabic 1256 is missing from his language options in phpmyadmin. I checked the mysql server:

    mysql> SHOW CHARACTER SET;
    ...
    | cp1256 | Windows Arabic | cp1256_general_ci | 1 |
    ...

    I believe that is what he is looking for. Anyone know why it is not showing for him in phpmyadmin?

    In case anyone was curious about this, the client was referring specifically to the options available to display character sets right within phpMyAdmin. The char set is enabled and available on the server, but is not available in the language settings for phpMyAdmin. This is due to the new encoding choices by the phpMyAdmin developers. Only UTF8 is supported in the display of data in phpMyAdmin. There is a thread in these forums on it with a quote right from the developers.
