When I went through the initial setup of WHM/cPanel, I chose to have no DNS server installed as all nameservers and DNS records are not on the VPS.

Whenever I try to update cPanel or anything similar, I get DNS resolution errors.

Do I need a DNS server on the server for these things to work? And if so, how can I go about adding BIND or NSD to the server manually? Or can I do it from cPanel somewhere?

You do not need a DNS server installed on the VPS if you are controlling the DNS records elsewhere. What is the exact error you get during the update?

    Hello :)

    You can enable Bind via:

"WHM Home » Service Configuration » Nameserver Selection"

However, you should also ensure your /etc/resolv.conf file uses valid DNS resolvers from your hosting provider to ensure your server is able to resolve remote destinations.

    Thank you.
