    Addons login authentication problems

We have 2 servers at our company which are bound together with management using WHM/Cpanel.

I am writing and addon in PHP for our users, and would like to implement a proper authentication method.

This will cause problems for two reasons:

    1. The user hashes are split up on two or multiple servers with no duplicates. It will need to authenticate to the server which the user is added to.

    2. The user files will be stored on different servers, the application will need to modify the user's homedir correct files.

I can surely do some ugly hacks implementing a PAM authentication through PHP for the local accounts, yet I fear that this is not the "correct way" (tm) nor will it cover a single login for both servers over one interface. How does cpanel currently handle webmail login etc?

    Guidance is appreciated!
