I'm about to change the IP addresses on my dedicated server and I'm looking for any advice, pre-warnings, check-lists, comments etc that you can offer.
I will be changing the main server ip address.
I will be changing the host name of the server.
I will be changing the NS1 and NS2 ip addresses.
I will be moving all hosting accounts to another ip address.
After scouring the web in aid to better understand what needs to be done at command line level and at cPanel's WHM level, I have come up with a list of things that I need to check and modify... but I might be missing something which I don't about just yet. I believe it would be much (very much) better if I was as prepared as I could be.
I'd appreciate anyone's comments on 'gotchas' that I could avoid and any lists of files that I need to modify manually that I can't do through cPanel's WHM.
All advice appreciated as it's the first time I've had to overhaul IP addresses on an existing server.
Currently, I'm aware of :-
- needing to get cPanel to update my licence
- needing to update WHM as necessary
- needing to update /etc/sysconfig/network (for HOSTNAME)
- needing to update /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 (for IPADDR)
- needing to update /etc/ips (removing and adding as needed)
So, can you think of anything else that I might need (other than extra coffee on standby)?
I'm hoping that my datacenter guys will be on hand to help with anything that goes wrong, but the idea is that this is something I should be able to complete myself. I know they know how to do things like this, but I would like to know how to do this myself ;-)
My server config is :-
WHM 11.30.2 (build 1)
CENTOS 5.6 i686 standard
Thanks in advance to anyone that replies.
