A client is requesting me to point a new domain to an existing hosting account. Not parked domain etc, but, essentially change the account's domain name just like one can change the account's date set up as pointed out here:

My question is- is it okay to change the domain name by editing the /var/cpanel/users/accountname file or will create unintended complications?

    Thanks in advance.

When I do this, I just modify the account (WHM -> Account Functions -> Modify an Account) and change the domain associated with the account.

Yes, WHM -> Account Functions -> Modify an Account is the correct way to change hosting account name.

David, Sunil, thank you both for the tip. I never thought it would be so easy. :)
