analog vs. awstats vs. webalizer - if I had to choose one...

?

If you had to choose just one web/ftp stats package, which would it be?

    Hi All,

Currently we have analog and webalizer enabled, but I'm having a peek at awstats now.

I'd like to be able to choose just one to go forward with - but which one?

A quick overview based on our experience:

    ANALOG
basic, not very graphical, can generate huge log/cache files of its own, clients don't understand most sections apart from monthly hits

    WEBALIZER
more graphical, but still not very appealing to the eye (which IS important to some clients!), reported hit stats seem to be much lower than comparable stats on analog (never really analysed why this is)

    AWSTATS
no experience - but had a look at it on someone else's server the other day and looked graphicall very impressive

Can anyone else give any comparison feedback? If you had to choose just one to offer to your hosting clients, which would it be and why?

    Thanks :)

Id choose awstats, reason for this? Well like you said it looks very graphical, but thats not just it, its very easy to use, and it explains it all.

It will tell you what certain things mean, and it organizes it in a neat fashion, just scroll down and look at what is happening, extended stuff on who visits the most, and what search engines had people click their links to you, and more.

Also lets you see what browsers are used most on your site so you can tailor your site towards that. J/K.

Anyways, id say awstats, customers love it for its eye candy, its fast, and the program itself does tha hand holding, we dont have to explain what everything means.

Of the 3 listed, AwStats all the way. I'd ditch Webalizer (like I have Analog) if it wasn't for a few Clients used to using it and still wanting to.

Ha! Just found this comparing awstats with analog, webalizer, and hitbox:

    Thanks for all your feedback.

P.S. Once awstats is enabled on a server, is it auto-updated to the latest stable/production version?

    How to Install awstats?

Now that I've seen the awstats demo given in the link, it appears more useful and compact than webalizer, which I've used previously.

    It raises 11 questions --

    0) How much hassle is it to install?

    1) How do you go about uninstalling webalizer and removing the specifically webalized stuff from the system?

    10) Any problem with running the two of them for a few months until awstats has got a few months built up?

    11) Is there any support in the cpanel screens to call up awstats, or must the cpanel screens be customized?

    Re: How to Install awstats?

    0) It's point and click install from WHM tweak settings

    1) Point and click from WHM tweak settings. Then, if your old users don't want the files, you can delete them from their etc folders.

    10) No problem at all.

    11) If you're using cpanelx or monsoon, awstats will automatically be detected.
