    A user tried this: -jailshell-2.05b$ ping xxx.xx.xx.xx

    and this were returned::
    ping: icmp open socket: Operation not permitted

    He says that he has a script which transfers a site from one ftp to another directly and he needs to run it but can't connect to the above host.

    Is there any specific reason why this is not allowed in jail shell? Hope that someone will enlighten me.

    Thanks
    John

    ping has nothing to do with ftp. his script should work fine without using ping.
    And to answer your question: if someone does ping flood from your server, depending on your datacenter - your server may be suspended.
