I want to decrease server load when there a large number of concurrent connections to my domains that have PHP scripts. I've been using eaccelerator, but someone told me the project was dead so I was wondering if there were better options. What's recommended for caching?

The other available caching mechanisms for DSO or FCGI PHP handlers are xCache and APC. xCache and EAccelerator are available in EasyApache for Apache modules, while APC would need to be manually installed.

You might also consider mod_deflate for compression purposes if you are using Apache 2 or Apache 2.2. This would add an option for website optimization in cPanel to enable for an account.
