Apache children hang; can't be killed

    Apache keeps failing, i have updated everytyhing and also i have a bunch of
    /usr/local/apache/bin/httpd -DSSL

    Please help thanks in advance...

    This is a little light on details to be able to give you a good answer.

    By saying that you have updated everything, would that include recompiling apache?

    Have you looked in the error_log to see if there is any hint as to what the problem is in there?

    Depending on the number of apache child processes, it could be an issue of your server being attacked with a DoS attack...
